Job Description Archives Scanning Technician An Archives Scanning Technician is responsible for filing, retrieving, and converting physical records and documents into digital formats using specialized scanning equipment and software. They play a vital role in preserving and organizing valuable information stored in archives, libraries, and other repositories. The technician carefully handles and prepares documents for scanning, ensuring their protection and integrity throughout the process. Attention to detail is crucial as they must accurately index and categorize scanned files to maintain easy accessibility. They collaborate with archivists, librarians, and other team members, and assist with the circulation and distribution of materials. The Archives Scanning Technician contributes to the preservation of historical and important records, facilitating their dissemination and long-term conservation.
Compensation & Benefits: Estimated Starting Salary Range for
Archives Scanning Technician : $20.60 hourly
Pay commensurate with experience.

Archives Scanning Technician Responsibilities Include: - Responsible for indexing, sorting, and analyzing active and inactive documents.
- Oversees the filing, retrieving, and scanning of specific documents and collections.
- Responds to customers seeking information about historical collections using both manual and automatic systems.
- Provides assistance with the circulation and distribution of documents, publications, and other materials to other staff, agencies, and organizations.
- Creates original or edit existing metadata records to describe reports, drawings, project information files, photos, and electronic files. Editing includes spelling out abbreviations used in legacy systems, adding storage locations, adding accession and box numbers for off-site storage, media type, etc.
- Uses Xerox and Canon/OCE software including file menu option, example editing, view, inserts, formats, graphics menu, printer command options, create, save files, import/export files, and creation and saving of file folders to associated network or local drives, CD, or optical media. Other software includes Adobe products and Microsoft Office products.
- Produces electronic files of architectural or engineering current or historical drawings that meet NPS requirements and NARA requirements as supplied to the incumbent. The position will handle fragile historic drawings or documents and scan them with appropriate techniques to ensure the source material is preserved.
- Cleans and maintains all bindery and Xerographic and Canon/OCE equipment.
- Moves customer document scans to accessible network drives and uses email to contact clients/customers, retrieve work order requests, and account information.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Archives Scanning Technician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: - Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- 2 to 4 years of experience with records management or records management or document control or associated library work to include management of both manual and automated information.
- Ability to maintain and operate Canon/OCE TDS610 and TXS4XT scanners and TDS750 and CW650 plotters.
- Knowledge of library, records, and/or document collection center requirements and processes is also required.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
