The Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement (OYEA) works to uplift young voices in decision-making processes and helps advance the lives of young people across Boston through programming and resource connecting. We feel it is crucial to have young voices actively engaged in the policies and decisions that impact their lives, and our mission is to provide the platform for them to do so.

All Boston youth should have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. We aim to serve as a central hub connecting young people to these resources and opportunities across City Hall and in their communities. We also value the youth workers who are on the ground with Boston's young people each day and aim to provide the necessary support and developmental opportunities to uplift their work. Our goal is to create and support spaces that empower the next generation to become community leaders and agents of change.

Position Overview:


The Community Engagement Coordinator will support OYEA by serving as the liaison between the office and the communities served. This position will lead the work of YouthLine, OYEA's youth resource hub, connecting constituents to a wide variety of resources, events, and services offered both internally and externally by the office. The Community Engagement Coordinator will represent OYEA across different community events and meetings and serve as a direct link between the office and its constituents. This position will require some travel around the city to connect with different communities and partners and engage with residents of all neighborhoods. The position requires a self-starter with an interest in public service and customer service, attention to detail, and superior organizational skills. This role will require meaningful engagement with diverse young people and families throughout the City of Boston. This position will report directly to OYEA's Deputy Director.

Responsibilities :
  • Supports the development and implementation of the new YouthLine youth resource hub initiative.
  • Consistently maintains and updates the offices resource database, ensuring information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Attends resource fairs, community meetings, and events on behalf of OYEA to promote all programs and services offered office-wide.
  • Forms new partnerships and strengthens existing ones to better serve and refer youth and families to available programs citywide.
  • Assists with the design, implementation, and evaluation of all outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Contributes to the offices marketing strategy and plan. Drafts language, flyers & other outreach materials as required.
  • Monitors and maintains email correspondence across OYEAs constituent-facing email accounts.
  • Serves as a liaison between OYEA and the community at all three levels of youth work (youth, organization staff, and organizations themselves).
  • Responsible for the timely dissemination of information regarding OYEA and its partners through multiple communication channels (social media, newsletter, email, etc.).
  • Manages a team of 1-2 direct reports.
  • Assists with connecting Language Other Than English (LOTE) speakers with available translation and language services as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications :
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full or equivalent part-time experience, of which at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Bachelors degree is strongly preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
  • Proessional or personal experience in implementing, executing, and monitoring programs.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Chinese, and Vietnamese).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, and Google Suite is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to positively engage with diverse communities.
  • Interest in public service, civic engagement, youth services & programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • Ability to sit at a welcome desk for extended periods of time.
  • Flexible schedule as some nights and weekends are required. Travel to sites might be required.
  • Knowledge of the City of Boston and its neighborhoods is preferred.

Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sexual Offender Record Information (SORI) checks are required.
